DHAKA, Feb 25, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced former president of the Dhaka South city unit of Jubo League, Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, to 20 years of imprisonment in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The court also ordered that the properties amassed through corruption be attached in favour of the state.

Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 pronounced the judgment this morning in the absence of the convict and issued an arrest warrant against him.

Earlier, on November 12, 2019, ACC Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam filed the case against Samrat for allegedly amassing wealth worth around Taka three crore beyond his known sources of income.

Following an investigation, the ACC submitted a charge sheet against him on November 26, 2020. The court framed charges on July 17, 2025, and later tried him in absentia.

A total of 21 witnesses testified against him on different hearing dates.
