SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today outlined a series of development plans for Bhola, including connecting the island district with the mainland through bridges and road links and setting up a 500-megawatt power plant and a urea fertilizer factory.

"Bhola is endowed with natural resources, and we want to harness them for the benefit of the people of the country, while also ensuring that the people of Bhola themselves reap the benefits of these resources," he said while replying to a question from Bhola-4 lawmaker Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayan at parliament this afternoon.

The Prime Minister said, "We have taken a plan to connect Bhola, being an island district, with the mainland. For this, we want to establish bridges and develop road connectivity through those bridges."

He said the government also plans to establish a 500-megawatt power plant and a urea fertilizer factory in Bhola.

Tarique Rahman said his government is encouraging private entrepreneurship in the district, noting that several private entrepreneurs have already taken initiatives to set up industries there.

"We are talking to some more people who will establish factories there. Through this, we want to develop Bhola, create employment opportunities for its people and make them economically self-reliant," he said.

He said the government wants to ensure that Bhola's natural resources contribute to the district's development while creating greater economic opportunities for its people.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram chaired the session, which began at 3:30 pm. The first half-hour of the session was devoted to the Prime Minister's Question Hour.
