55km highways upgraded to four lanes, 158km roads strengthened in FY26: Minister

SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 55 kilometres of highways were upgraded to four lanes while 81 kilometres of new flexible pavement and 59 kilometres of rigid pavement were constructed during the fiscal year 2025-2026 under various development projects.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam disclosed the information while replying to a scripted question from ruling party lawmaker Md Jahander Ali Mia (Madaripur-2) in the House today with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, in the chair.

He said the government also widened 259.53 kilometres of roads, strengthened 158 kilometres and resurfaced 258 kilometres of highways during the period.

The minister said 58 bridges measuring 4,588 metres in total, 214 culverts measuring 1,152 metres, one 700-metre flyover, one 42-metre overpass and two underpasses measuring 21.35 metres in total were constructed during the period.

He said 95 development projects are currently under implementation, involving a total ADP allocation of Tk 15,851.08 crore.
