SANGSAD BHABAN, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS) - Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan today said steps are being taken to enlist genuine freedom fighters who were left out of the official list for various reasons.
“During the fascist rule, many genuine freedom fighters were excluded from the list simply because they were involved in opposition politics. Besides, many genuine freedom fighters could not be included in the list for various reasons. Steps are now being taken to enlist them,” he said.
The minister made the remarks while replying to a supplementary question from opposition lawmaker Md Nazmul Huda of Meherpur-2 constituency in the Jatiya Sangsad.
He said applications are now being received for inclusion of genuine freedom fighters in the official list following the assumption of office by the incumbent government.
“After scrutiny and verification of these applications, those found to be genuine are being included in the list,” he added.
The minister said the government is also conducting verification and scrutiny of those who were included in the freedom fighters’ list through various irregularities despite not being freedom fighters.
“Those proven to be non-freedom fighters through the verification process are being removed from the list. Many names have already been removed,” he said.
Ahmed Azam Khan said preparing an authentic and accurate list of freedom fighters is one of the government’s major objectives.
“To this end, we are ensuring due recognition of genuine freedom fighters on the one hand, while continuing the process of removing those who were enlisted through irregularities on the other,” he added.
