SANGSAD BHABAN, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) — A total of 19,641 firearms licences were issued in Bangladesh between 2010 and 2024, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told Jatiya Sangsad today.

The minister disclosed the figure in a written question from Shah Md. Wares Ali Mamun, a ruling party lawmaker from Jamalpur-5, during the day’s question-answer session in the House.

The lawmaker sought information on the number of people who received firearms licences during the 15-year period, along with a year-wise breakdown of the licences issued.

In his reply, the home minister said the 19,641 licences issued during the period included 7,308 shotgun licences, 5,347 pistol licences, 594 revolver licences and 948 rifle licences. Another 5,444 licences were issued for other types of firearms.

According to the ministry, the detailed year-wise data for the period from 2010 to 2024 would have to be collected from the offices of the District Magistrates in all 64 districts and subsequently submitted to the ministry.

As the collection and compilation of the district-wise information would require additional time, the ministry provided a partial response to the parliamentary question.
