SANGSAD BHABAN, July 13, 2026 (BSS) - The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has started repair work to address rainwater leakage from the roof of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, with authorities expressing hope that the problem will be permanently resolved within the next week.

The matter was raised in the House today during the sitting chaired by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, when Whip G.K. Gaus drew attention to rainwater leaking through the roof at different parts of the Parliament complex, including its mosque, and urged the authorities to take immediate remedial measures.

Responding to the issue, the Chief Whip, who was conducting the proceedings of the House, said the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

He informed the House that discussions had already been held with the officials concerned and repair work at the affected sections of the Parliament building began on Sunday.

Expressing optimism, the Chief Whip said the ongoing renovation is expected to be completed within a week, which would permanently resolve the problem of water seepage through the roof.

Highlighting the importance of the issue, the Deputy Speaker said the authorities were fully aware of the leakage problem and urged the ministry concerned to ensure prompt and effective action.

Responding to the Deputy Speaker's call, the Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher assured the House that the ministry had already taken the matter into consideration following the Chief Whip's intervention.

The minister said all necessary measures had been undertaken to repair the damaged sections of the Parliament building and expressed confidence that a lasting solution to the problem would be ensured at the earliest.
