SANGSAD BHABAN, June 28, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said the government is firmly committed to ensuring social security for underprivileged and marginalized sections of society through a well-defined action plan.

He made the remarks while replying to a starred question placed by treasury bench member Md. Shahadat Hossain from Lakshmipur-1 in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).

The minister said the government is working to gradually bring all eligible elderly people, widows and distressed women, and persons with disabilities under social allowance programmes.

Despite resource constraints, he said, the government has been increasing both the number of beneficiaries and the amount of allowances every year in a rational manner, subject to budgetary allocations.

Zahid added that the initiative is aimed at bringing a larger number of underprivileged people under the country's social safety net programmes.
