SANGSAD BHABAN, June 24, 2026 (BSS) – Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today informed Parliament that Tk 4.50 crore has been allocated in the proposed budget for FY 2026-27 for conducting a feasibility study of the proposed Second Padma Bridge between Paturia and Daulatdia.

He disclosed this while responding to a tabled question from opposition lawmaker Nurunnisa Siddika of Jamaat-e-Islami from a reserved women’s seat in the Jatiya Sangsad.

In her question, Nurunnisa Siddika wanted to know whether any allocation had been  made in the proposed budget or the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the long-awaited construction of the Second Padma Bridge connecting Daulatdia in Rajbari and Paturia in Manikganj.

Replying to the query, the finance minister said the Paturia-Daulatdia Second Padma Bridge is an important project included in the current government’s election manifesto.

He said the Bangladesh Bridges Authority (BBA), under the Bridges Division, is currently carrying out the process of appointing a consulting firm to conduct the feasibility study for the project.

The minister also said a recommendation has been made to include the “Construction of Paturia-Daulatdia Second Padma Bridge” project in the list of unapproved new projects (Green Page) of the ADP for the fiscal year 2026-27.

Amir Khosru said no specific allocation has been earmarked in the ADP for the construction of the bridge in the upcoming fiscal year. However, Tk 4.50 crore has been allocated in the Bangladesh Bridges Authority’s self-financed budget to undertake the feasibility study.

He added that the study would assess the project’s viability, estimated cost and other technical aspects, which would help pave the way for its future implementation.
