Partho, MP from Bhola-1 constituency raised the matter while speaking under point of order at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad in the chair.

In his speech the lawmaker said that while it is shameful that although a parliament member should speak for the people but they are talking for washing machine, microwave and curtain for his flat.

“The fascist regime has not only killed the democracy but also has severely damaged the standard of the parliament. But I think that we are moving toward that situation,” said Partho in his speech.

“I feel shame as how a parliament member demand for washing machine, microwave oven and curtain for his flat while standing in the parliament whereas the opposition rejected to take vehicle and government plot after taking oath as the lawmaker,” he said.

At one stage in his speech, the ruling party allied lawmaker also offered microwave oven and urged the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to provide a washing machine and the home minister to provide curtain for the flat.

Jamaat-e-Islami MP Mizanur Rahman of Chapainawabganj-2 on Wednesday demanded that each flat allocated to members of the parliament be equipped with a washing machine, microwave oven, and curtains.

He raised the issue while speaking in the parliament during a discussion on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.

“We are discussing the budget. A supplementary budget has also been passed in this great parliament. Honourable Speaker, honourable members have passed a supplementary budget involving a large amount of money.

Yet, in the residential flats allotted to MPs, the window and door curtains have not been installed to this day,” said Mizanur.

Addressing the speaker, he added, “We had heard that each of our flats would be provided with a washing machine and a microwave oven as well. I strongly urge, through you, that these curtains, microwave ovens, and washing machines be supplied to us.”
