SANGSAD BHABAN, June 18, 2026 (BSS)- The Crop Diversification Programme (CDP) has significantly increased the cultivation of high-value and nutritious crops in the country, said Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid in the parliament today.

He said CDP has also contributed promoting modern agricultural technologies and quality seed distribution and enhancing farmers’ capacity through training and awareness initiatives.

The minister said this in reply to a written question tabled by ruling party lawmaker Nilufar Chowdhury Moni (women seat-10) in the Jatiya Sangsad.

As a result of these interventions, the tendency toward single-crop cultivation has declined, cropping intensity under multiple-cropping systems has increased, and production of fruits and vegetables has risen substantially across the country, the minister said.

Amin Ur Rashid said the CDP is being implemented to make agriculture more profitable, nutrition-sensitive and climate-resilient.

The programme is currently operating in nearly all districts and upazilas of the country including coastal saline-prone areas, Barind region, haor areas and hill districts, he said.

The minister said farmers are being provided with modern technologies, improved-quality seeds and necessary technical support through various projects. At the same time, they are being encouraged to cultivate nutritious and high-value crops to increase agricultural production and improve farm incomes.

The minister noted that several key projects are being implemented under the programme in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.

The projects include- Smallholder Agricultural Competitiveness Project (SACP), Programme on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNER), Strengthening Nutrition and Food Security through Agricultural Development Project, Expansion of Modern Agricultural Technologies in Bangladesh’s Char Areas Project, and Crop Intensification Project for the Greater Mymensingh Region.

He said the implementation of the projects is accelerating agricultural diversification, expanding the use of modern technologies and contributing positively to ensuring food and nutrition security.

Through these initiatives, significant progress is being achieved in enhancing agricultural productivity, strengthening food and nutrition security, and promoting sustainable agricultural development, the minister added.
