SANGSAD BHABAN, June 15, 2026 (BSS) - The Jatiya Sangsad today passed the supplementary budget of Tk 56,117.59 crore for the fiscal 2025-26 to meet the increased expenditures under different ministries and divisions for the outgoing fiscal year ending June 30.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury placed the supplementary budget in the House on June 11 along with the national budget of FY2026-27.
The interim government placed a total of Tk 7,90,000 crore was proposed in the budget of 2025-26 fiscal while the revised budget of the outgoing fiscal stood Taka 7,44,000 crore.
Different ministries, divisions and institutions sought increased amount under 27 demands for grant. Discussions, however, were held on only eight cut-motions which were moved by 20 opposition members.
These were on the allocation of finance division, planning division, commerce ministry, science and technology ministry, local government division, water resources ministry food ministry and anti-corruption commission (ACC).
These cut motions were brought by opposition Bangladesh Jamaat-e Islami lawmakers Shahjahan Chowdhury of Chattogram-15, M Abdul Gafur of Kushtia-2, M Kamrul Hasan of Mymensingh-6, Mohammad Nazibur Rahman of Pabna-1, GM Nazrul Islam of Satkhira-4, M Abdul Alim of Bagherhat-4, M Muzibur Rahman of Rajshahi-1, Al Faruque Abdul Latif of Nilphamari-2 KhjelfafatMajlish lawmaker Mohammad Abul Hasan of Sylhet-5 and Independent lawmaker Begum Rumeen Farhana of Brahmanbaria-2.
However, those cut-motions were rejected by voice votes.
The supplementary budget was passed in the house through endorsing the Appropriation (Supplementary) Bill, 2026 which was placed by the finance minister and it was passed unanimously in the house by voice votes.
Under the supplementary budget outlay, the finance division got the highest allocation of Taka 28,655.54 crore while the second largest allocation earmarked for the Planning division with an outlay of Taka 12,407.83 crore.
Science and Technology Ministry got Taka 4,923.48 crore,the Water Resources Ministry got Taka 2,177.04 crore while local government division received Taka 1,809.56 crore.
