SANGSAD BHABAN, June 14, 2026 (BSS) -Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul
Hoque Milon today informed Parliament that around 44,000 applications for
welfare benefits submitted by retired teachers and employees are currently
awaiting disposal.
He said an additional allocation of approximately Taka 3,150 crore is
required to settle the pending applications in a single phase.
"The government is actively considering the matter to ensure the necessary
funds and expedite the disposal of the applications," the minister said while
replying to a starred question tabled by opposition lawmaker Md. Golam Rasul
(Jashore-4) in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
With Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the chair, Dr Milon said the
government and the Welfare Trust have undertaken a number of initiatives to
ensure prompt payment of benefits to retired teachers and employees.
He informed the House that during the 2025-26 fiscal year, welfare benefits
amounting to Taka 553.63 crore were disbursed among 9,284 retired teachers
and employees.
The minister said all applications submitted up to April 30, 2023 have
already been processed, and the funds were transferred directly to the
beneficiaries' respective bank accounts through the iBAS++ system.
The process of settling applications submitted in June and July 2023 has also
been completed, and preparations are underway to release the payments, he
added.
The minister reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring that retired
teachers and employees receive their entitled benefits as quickly as possible
through improved administrative measures and adequate financial support.
