SANGSAD BHABAN, June 14, 2026 (BSS) - The government is taking steps to launch the mid-day meal programme to all remaining upazilas of the country from the next fiscal year (FY) as part of its commitment to implementing the current government's election manifesto.
Minister for Primary and Mass Education Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon informed this in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today replying to a written tabled question from treasury bench lawmaker Md. Mostafizur Rahman Babul (Jamalpur-3).
The day's sitting began with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the chair.
Milon said the ongoing project titled "School Feeding Programme in Government Primary Schools" is currently being implemented in 150 upazilas across the country.
He said a proposed project titled "Mid-Day Meal Programme in Government Primary Schools" is now under process and is expected to be launched from the next fiscal year to cover the remaining upazilas.
Replying to another tabled question from opposition lawmaker Md. Abdul Wares (Gaibandha-5) in the House today, the Minister for Primary and Mass Education said that the salaries of the head teachers of government primary schools have already been upgraded into grade 10 while it is also under active consideration of the government to upgrade the salaries of the assistant teachers to 11th grade.
