SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman entered the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) along with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury as the proposed national budget is set to be unveiled in the House this afternoon.

The Finance Minister entered the House with a black briefcase, which contained the budget documents and Finance Bill for the BNP government's budget for fiscal year 2026-27.

As Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the Finance Minister entered the JS a few minutes before 3:00 pm today, photographers continuously clicked their cameras to capture their photos. 

Upon their entry, members of both the treasury and opposition benches welcomed the Finance Minister by thumping their desks.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, attired in a navy-blue suit and blue tie, appeared cheerful as he entered the JS.

After entering the House, the Finance Minister took his seat in the front row of the treasury bench. His seat is located next to that of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

This is the first budget of the Tarique Rahman government. Following the BNP's landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary elections on February 17, Tarique Rahman formed the government.

In 2006, M Saifur Rahman, who served as Finance Minister under Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, presented the BNP government's last national budget for the 2006-07 fiscal year.
