SANGSAD BHABAN, June 7, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and
Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today said the government is planning to
form a full-fledged team to resist spreading misinformation in the name of
journalism.
"A full-fledged team will be announced soon aiming to monitor and check the
unethical journalism," he said while responding to a query made by treasury
bench lawmaker Jainal Abedin Faruque of Noakhali-2 constituency during the
question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, was in the chair.
Replying to the query, Choudhury said the concerned Information and
Broadcasting ministry will announce the name and area of responsibility of
the team and the government is continuously working whether those who are
involved with spreading misinformation in the name of journalism to bring
under the purview of law.
At the same time, those who are not being registered as journalists and
eventually spreading misinformation through social media would be brought
under the law through monitors.
After replying to another query, the state minister said the government is
working to formulate a policy for the online and digital portals and the
government will approve the online and digital portals according to the
policy in future.
Responding to a query on terminating of several journalists recently from
different media outlets made by National Citizen Party (NCP) lawmaker Abdul
Hannan Masud of Noakhali-6, Yasser Khan Chowdhury asked the lawmaker to
specify the name of the media and said the media is totally free as the
government led by prime minister Tarique Rahman has ensured the press freedom
to uphold the democracy.
"In the past, the fascist regime intervened in press freedom and they had
dictated the media to publish selective news, but now we are working to
ensure press freedom for the welfare of the country," he added.
