SANGSAD BHABAN, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today
informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the government has undertaken a series of
people-friendly measures to eliminate mob violence and extortion across the
country.

Responding to a starred tabled question from ruling party lawmaker Shamsur
Rahman Shimul Biswas (Pabna-5) in the House, Salahuddin said that under the
directives of the current government, law enforcement agencies-particularly
Bangladesh Police-have intensified their efforts to bring those involved in
such crimes under the law.

The home minister said, "Based on intelligence inputs, special drives are
being conducted regularly to bring mob perpetrators and extortionists under
the law," adding that "suspects are being identified through video footage
and modern technology to ensure their swift arrest."

He further noted, "Special squads have been formed at every police station
under Dhaka Metropolitan Police to prevent mob violence and upon receiving
any information about mob violence or extortion, immediate action is taken to
control the situation and initiate legal steps,"

Highlighting preventive measures, Salahuddin Ahmed said that visible police
patrols have been intensified, and information technology is being used
continuously to detect and apprehend offenders.

The home minister said awareness is being raised among people through beat
policing and community policing initiatives.

The minister also urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement, saying,
"People are being encouraged to report incidents of mob violence or extortion
immediately through the national emergency service 999 or to the nearest
police station."

Salahuddin further emphasized that monitoring of social media platforms has
been strengthened to prevent the spread of rumours and misinformation that
could incite mob violence.
