SANGSAD BHABAN, April 28, 2026 (BSS) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today urged the lawmakers not to divide the nation about the history of the Liberation War.
“The lawmakers should abstain from dividing the nation afresh based on the history of the Liberation War as repeated practice of the history cause a disruption,” he said.
The Home Minister came up with the appeal when uproar created among the ruling and opposition lawmakers over the history of the liberation centering the speech of ruling party lawmaker and veteran freedom fighter Md Fazlur Rahman of Kishorganj-4 on thanks giving motion on the President speech at the Jatiya Sangsad.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir-Bikram was in the chair.
There would be an excitement in the House and it is usual, but the lawmakers should follow the days order aiming to set an example before the nation through the lawmakers’ fruitful discussion in parliament.
Pointing to ruling party lawmaker Fazlur Rahman as aged and enrich with the history, but “We are now in geography and that’s why if we go frequent practice of history that might cause a little disruption.
Drawing attention of the Speaker, the Home Minister said: “We feel good when the leader of the opposition in the parliament said that he comes from a family of the freedom fighter and we own it. Even some opposition members are also freedom fighters and you [Speaker] have acknowledged it.”
Expressed his gratitude to the opposition, Salahuddin Ahmed said when the House passed the Jatiya Muktijoddah Council Bill, the opposition was present in the parliament, even they did not oppose and did not stage walkout.
“So, we should not divide the nation afresh with the history of the Liberation War and we should work to make the Jatiya Sangsad effective as the nation even the disabled July warriors can realize that the parliament is working to fulfill the aspirations of the people,” he added.
