SANGSAD BHABAN, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman today informed the Parliament that the government has taken all necessary measures to bring back to Bangladesh the bodies of two Bangladeshi students killed in a brutal incident at the University of South Florida in the United States.
He made the statement while replying to a starred tabled question placed by ruling party lawmaker A.E. Sultan Mahmud Babu (Jamalpur-2) in the Jatiya Sangsad today.
The Foreign Minister told the House that since the tragic deaths of the two students, the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Florida have been working closely on the matter.
They are maintaining constant communication with the bereaved families, the university authorities, and local administration.
He said that, alongside completing the necessary legal formalities, the process of repatriating the bodies to their families in Bangladesh at the earliest possible time is now under government supervision.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to the safety of Bangladeshi nationals abroad, Dr. Rahman said ensuring the security of expatriates remains a top priority. “The government is working to ensure that Bangladesh missions abroad serve not only as administrative offices but also as ‘centres of trust’ for expatriates,” he added.
He further noted that consular support has been strengthened, particularly for Bangladeshis living in conflict-affected regions in the Middle East, including evacuation, safe shelter, and repatriation efforts.
The minister also said that Bangladesh missions have been given strict instructions to take prompt action, in coordination with local law enforcement agencies, in case of any violence or security threats against Bangladeshi nationals anywhere in the world.
He assured the House that the government would continue its diplomatic efforts at both local and international levels to ensure the safety and security of Bangladeshi citizens abroad.
