SANGSAD BHABAN, April 22, 2026 (BSS)- Treasury bench lawmakers today called for greater unity among politicians for building a progressive country.
Taking part in the discussion on discussion on thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech in the House they said opposition always showing aggressive attitude toward the government.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir-Bikram was in the chair.
There may be different political ideology but all political leaders should have a goal to work for the greater interest of the country, they said.
“In the parliamentary democracy, parliament should be a platform for constructive debate not destructive confrontation. We will make debate on different public important issues but our common goal is to work jointly for upholding the democracy,” said BNP lawmaker Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin (Ctg-5).
At the same time, we have to work for the welfare of the people of the country; he said adding that the present government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working for promote inclusive politics amid multifaceted difficulties.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipen Dewan said the prime minister is trying to make a discrimination free country and a 180-days programme has been announced by different ministries.
Criticizing the aggressive attitude of the opposition in the parliament, another ruling party lawmaker AKM Selim Reza Habib (Pabna-2) said, “We don’t know who will be benefited with this aggressive attitude of the opposition.”
The first session of the 13th parliament began on March 12 with President Mohammed Shahabuddin delivering his address.
The Business Advisory Committee later fixed 50 hours for discussion on President’s speech. Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam moved the motion of thanks on the president’s address, which was seconded by Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu.
“We are all doing politics for the people but due to our disunity we had to suffer for seventeen years”, Habib said.
Another treasury bench member Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan of Khagrachari constituency said the opposition is hatching conspiracy outside the parliament.
Pointed out the attack on Chattra Dal, a student wing of the ruling BNP in Chattogram City College by Shibir cadres, the lawmaker said such heinous attack on the Chatra Dal is an attack on the democracy.
“This aggressive attitude of the opposition demonstrates that the opposition will not allow us to do a systematic politics in the country,” he said.
The ruling party members appraised the speech of the President delivered in the parliament while the opposition members rejected his speech terming him as a associate of the fascist.
