SANGSAD BHABAN, April 15, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said his government has already taken steps to take into consideration the potential findings from the maritime spatial planning activities.
He told parliament replying to a starred question of treasury bench lawmaker from Barguna-2 constituency Nurul Islam Moni this morning as Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram chaired it.
The prime minister also said the BNP's election manifesto includes ensuring the scientific and sustainable use of the country's vast marine resources.
The Leader of the House said earlier the BNP government formulated the 'Coastal Zone Policy 2005', which was a significant milestone for the development and protection of coastal areas.
Now "the incumbent government has already taken steps to consider the maritime spatial planning activities and its potential findings," he said.
Tarique Rahman, also ruling BNP chairman, said the development issue of blue economy by ensuring the scientific and sustainable use of the country's vast marine resources and establishment of a National Blue Economy Authority have been included in BNP's election manifesto.
He said if necessary, the government is actively considering establishment of an institutional framework in the 2026-27 fiscal year to ensure a coordinated balance among marine resources, fisheries, tourism, and environmental conservation, as well as sustainable and long-term development of the blue economy.
