TANGAIL, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Tangail-6 (Nagarpur and Delduar) constituency in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls AKM Abdul Hamid has pledged to prevent corruption in his constituency.
“If elected in the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad polls, my first priority will be to prevent corruption in the area,” he said in an exclusive interview with BSS district correspondent Mahiuddin Suman here recently.
Here are the excerpts of the interview:
BSS: What are your election pledges for the voters of your constituency?
AKM Abdul Hamid: If elected with the people’s mandate as a candidate of the alliance, my first task will be to bring all forms of corruption to zero level in my constituency. Besides, steps will be taken to keep the prices of essentials within tolerable level of people and to ensure the supply of seeds and fertilizers to marginal farmers at affordable prices. I also plan to improve healthcare services, road infrastructure, employment opportunities for the unemployed and ensure safe accommodation for women. Proper education for the youth will be ensured alongside imparting financial and technical training so that they become assets of society rather than a burden. Mentioning that the constituency is river erosion prone area, he promised that he will work to ensure effective river management to prevent erosion.
BSS: What instructions have you given to party leaders and activists regarding compliance with the election code of conduct?
AKM Abdul Hamid: Immediately after the announcement of the election schedule, we removed all old campaign materials, including banners and posters, from the area. If the administration fails to enforce the election code of conduct, a fair electoral environment cannot be maintained. We urge the administration to take stronger measures to ensure compliance.
BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?
AKM Abdul Hamid: The 17-year rule of the fascist government ended in the face of a student–people’s movement. We also joined that movement, regardless of party affiliation, in support of change. Therefore, we support change and stand in favour of the ‘Yes’ vote. We are encouraging voters to vote for ‘Yes’ in the referendum. A ‘Yes’ vote means freeing the country from fascism. To ensure the implementation of the July Charter, we are working collectively to make the ‘Yes’ vote victorious.
BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming parliamentary election?
AKM Abdul Hamid: During election activities, we have observed that people expect even more from candidates than candidates expect from them. Voters have told us that candidates often make promises before elections but fail to fulfill them afterward. This time, they want change. Voters are pledging to vote for the ' Dari Palla' (Scale) symbol to bring Jamaat-e-Islami to power.
The Tangail-6 (Nagarpur and Delduar) constituency comprises 20 unions under two upazilas and has 154 polling centres. The total number of voters is 4, 68,076, including 2, 36,598 men, 2, 31,474 women and four voters of third gender.
The contesting candidates are BNP candidate Rabiul Awal Lavlu (Sheaf of Paddy), Jamaat-e-Islami candidate AKM Abdul Hamid (Dari Palla), Islami Andolon Bangladesh candidate Md Akhi Noor Mia (Hat Pakha), independent candidate Jewel Sarkar ('Horin' or 'Deer'), Jatiya Party candidate Md Mamunur Rahim (Plough), independent candidate Muhammad Ashraful Islam ('Morog' or Hen ) and Jatiya Party (JP) candidate Tarek Shams Khan (Bicycle).
