CHANDPUR, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) - Md. Billal Hossain, candidate of Jamaat-led 11-party alliance for Chandpur-2 constituency, has pledged to free Matlab from terrorism and extortion if he gets people’s mandate in the 13th parliament election.

Billal Hossain, acting secretary general of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), said, “If Allah wills and the people of Matlab elect me with the umbrella symbol, there will be no discrimination in Matlab, and no extortion, extremism and terrorism will be tolerated.”

He expressed such commitments in an exclusive interview with BSS district correspondent Abdus Salam Azad Jewel.

A founding member of LDP, Billal Hossain has been associated with the party for 22 years. He is currently serving as acting secretary general. During his student life, he was involved in BNP politics. Professionally, he is a businessman.

BSS: What are your promises to the voters of your constituency?

Billal Hossain: My electoral promise is that if elected, there will be no discrimination in Matlab, and extortion will be eliminated.

Strict actions will be taken against those who are illegally extracting sand from rivers around Matlab and trying to destroy it.

Many young people in Matlab have not been able to vote for the past 15 years, and many educated individuals remain unemployed. If our alliance comes to power, we will ensure employment for educated unemployed youth.

To re-establish democracy, I will do whatever is necessary in consultation with the government, Inshallah.

BSS: What instructions have you given your leaders and activists regarding compliance with the electoral code of conduct?

Billal Hossain: I have already instructed my leaders and activists to ensure that the electoral code of conduct is not violated in any way. If I do not violate the code, I believe my rival candidates will also follow it and respect the rules.

BSS: What is your position on the implementation of the July Charter?

Billal Hossain: For the past 15 years, we fought against fascism but could not achieve success. The young leadership has shown what can be done. Without the July Charter, we could not even think of holding the election on February 12.

Therefore, we will do whatever is necessary to implement the July Charter. On February 12, there will be two votes; one for the July Charter and the other for the national parliamentary election. I urge my leaders and voters to cast a ‘Yes’ vote in favor of the July Charter.

BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming national election?

Billal Hossain: I firmly believe that we will be able to hold the election properly on February 12. I want to see a level playing field.
