DHAKA, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate for Dhaka-4 constituency Tanvir Ahmed has pledged to resolve long-standing waterlogging, establish a government hospital and enforce zero tolerance against drugs if elected in the upcoming national polls.
Ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election, Tanvir Ahmed shared his plan in an exclusive interview with BSS.
Responding to query about his commitment to the people, the BNP candidate identified waterlogging, lack of healthcare facilities, drug menace and unemployment as the major problems in Shyampur-Kadamtali areas under Dhaka South City Corporation.
He promised coordinated initiatives involving Dhaka and Narayanganj city corporations, WASA, Water Development Board, and Roads and Highways Department to tackle waterlogging.
He further committed to building a government hospital, recovering Khas land for playgrounds and community centers, constructing a graveyard and Eidgah, and reopening closed industries to create jobs for local youths.
Tanvir also vowed to set up libraries in each ward to promote education and cultural activities to keep adolescents away from drugs and gang culture.
Highlighting gas shortages, he said discussions with Titas Gas authorities had assured repair and maintenance of old lines.
He also emphasized environmental protection through mandatory covered transport of construction materials and tree plantation programs.
On compliance with the election code of conducts, Tanvir said he instructed his party men to strictly follow the electoral code of conduct.
Regarding the referendum on the 'July Charter,' he said BNP supports the 'Yes' campaign to reflect people's will.
Expressing hope for a free, fair and neutral election, Tanvir said such polls would enable citizens to elect accountable representatives and ensure Bangladesh's progress.
Other candidates contesting in Dhaka-4 are Mohammad Firoz Alam (Communist Party of Bangladesh candidate with Sickle), Mohammad Mizanur Rahman (independent candidate with football), Md. Abul Kalam Azad (Jonotar Dal candidate with pen), Md. Zakir Hossain (Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal - BASAD candidate with plough), Sahel Ahmed Sohel (Bangladesh Sangskritik Mukti Jote candidate with Stick symbol), Syed Zaynul Abedin (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate with Daripalla) and Syed Md. Mosaddek Billah (Islami Andolon Bangladesh candidate with hand fan symbol).
Dhaka-4 constituency has 3,58,685 voters, including 1 lakh 83,509 men, 1 lakh 75,171 women, and five third-gender voters.
A total of 3,821 voters have registered for postal ballots, while 115 polling centers will be set up.
