PATUAKHALI, Feb 7, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Patuakhali-3 constituency Professor Muhammad Shah Alam has vowed to work for sustainable development in the areas like education, health, communication and employment if he is elected in the 13th parliament election.
Prof Shah Alam passed his honours from Dhaka College and obtained his master's degree from Dhaka University. Later, he started teaching at Galachipa Government College. After 27 years of teaching, he retired on January 7, 2016. He taught numerous students during his teaching career, which is still considered one of the foundations of his political power.
Prof Shah Alam shared his expectations and visions in an interview with BSS Patuakhali district roaming correspondent Enamul Haque Ena ahead of the national elections.
BSS: What is your main election promises to the voters of your area?
Prof Shah Alam: I will make the education system of my constituency international standard. There is no honours’ curriculum in the government college here, so I intend to introduce it. I will introduce double shifts in high schools within my area. With this aim, employment-oriented training will be arranged so that none remains unemployed after obtaining education. I will work to upgrade the 50-bed health complex to a 100-bed one. I will integrate Charkajal and Charborhan and implement a development plan, as well as develop the roads and communication system.
BSS: What are your instructions to the party leaders and activists to follow the electoral code of conduct?
Prof Shah Alam: We are following the election code of conduct. Every one of our workers has been given clear instructions to this end.
BSS: What is your personal position regarding the July Charter and the referendum?
Prof Shah Alam: The July Charter and the referendum are in our self-affirmation. I request all voters to vote for ‘Yes’ in favour of the referendum. If there was no July, there would have been no election. So we will say ‘Yes’ to July.
BSS: What are your expectations in the upcoming elections?
Prof Shah Alam: I hope the Election Commission (EC) can ensure a level playing field. There are some problems, but those are correctable. The commission should remember that the July Uprising gave us a lot. They should be responsible for the current state of this country, which was achieved through the blood of 1,485 martyrs.
If I get the support of the people, I will make every effort to transform Galachipa-Dashmina into a modern, educated and developed township.
