PATUAKHALI, Feb 7, 2026 (BSS) - Hasan Mamun, an independent candidate for Patuakhali-3 constituency has vowed to work on a priority basis to resolve land and boundary disputes and improve the living standards of the people of the char areas if he is elected in the 13th national polls.
He would take steps to accelerate the development of the area with his talent and mindset of serving people.
Hasan Mamun was the former president of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal and a former member of the BNP central executive committee.
He is contesting the polls with the 'horse' symbol. Political analysts believe that he has a strong organisational base in Galachipa and Dashmina upazilas due to his active involvement in politics for 34 years. As a result, his participation in this constituency has further intensified the electoral competition.
In an interview with BSS Patuakhali district roaming correspondent Enamul Haque Ena, Hasan Mamun shared the aspirations of common people and his future plans.
BSS: What is your main election promise for the voters of your area?
Hasan Mamun: Based on the opinions of noted professionals, local public representatives and common people of Dashmina-Galachipa and my own vision, I am preparing a complete election manifesto, which will be unveiled soon. Development is an ongoing process. The responsibility of public representatives like us is to accelerate this development with our own talent and mindfulness. I will take effective initiatives to increase agricultural production. I will play a role in resolving land and boundary disputes. I intend to develop the health sector and establish modern hospitals in the char areas. Construction of Haridevpur Bridge, improvement of roads and poor condition of schools and colleges will be my priority, Insha Allah.
BSS: What are your instructions to your leaders and activists to follow the electoral code of conduct?
Hasan Mamun: My workers are aware of maintaining the code of conduct. However, I think that the Election Commission, Returning Officer and local administration need to play a stricter role. Mobile court activities should be strengthened. The army is in the field, but I expect more active initiatives in implementing the code of conduct. I have instructed all my leaders and activists to strictly follow the code of conduct.
BSS: What is your personal position on the July Charter and the referendum?
Hasan Mamun: I will express my position on the July Charter and the referendum through secret ballot. Voting is a personal right and that is why I want to maintain its respect.
BSS: What are your expectations in the upcoming national elections?
Hasan Mamun: I expect a free, fair, impartial and participatory election. If an acceptable election is not held this time after a long 17-year, the country will fall in deep crisis. The administration will be called upon to fulfill its duties according to the law and constitution, without looking at which party comes to power.
