IAB Patuakhali-1 candidate Firoz Alam oledges to build a society free from terrorism and corruption

PATUAKHALI, Feb 7, 2026 (BSS) - Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) candidate for Patuakhali-1 constituency Md. Firoz Alam has pledged to build a society free from terrorism, extortion and corruption if elected in the 13th national parliament elections.

He made the commitment in an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) ahead of the national polls.

Md. Firoz Alam is currently serving as the district adviser of IAB and district president of the Mujahid Committee. 

Previously, he also served as vice-president of Amtoli Upazila Islamic Shasantantra Chhatra Andolon.

Speaking about his election pledges, Firoz Alam said that if elected, he would ensure a transparent and accountable administration so that ordinary people are not harassed in government offices. 

He promised to renovate dilapidated rural roads, take strict action against drug abuse, and work to eliminate unemployment through training and job-oriented programmes for the youth.

 “If IAB comes to power, the safety of mothers and sisters will be ensured,” he said, adding that he would work to improve the quality of services in hospitals and educational institutions.

Regarding compliance with election code of conduct, the IAB candidate said that the party’s leaders and activists are disciplined and committed to following the election code of conduct. 

He claimed that the party has never been accused of violating election rules in the past.

On the issue of the July Charter and the referendum, Firoz Alam urged voters to vote “yes,” stating that the changes underway began through the sacrifices of students during the 2024 Mass Uprising.

Expressing optimism about the election outcome, he said that Patuakhali-1 is a stronghold of Charmonai Pir Saheb, and expressed confidence in victory for IAB, symbolized by the Hat Pakha election symbol.

Several other candidates are contesting the seat, including Altaf Hossain Chowdhury (BNP), Abdul Mannan Howlader (Jatiya Party), Gautam Chandra Shil (Bangladesh JASAD), Md. Abdul Wahab (AB Party), and Shahidul Islam Fahim (Gono Odhikar Parishad) apart from 

The Patuakhali-1 constituency comprises Patuakhali Sadar, Mirzaganj and Dumki upazilas. 

Patuakhali-1 is an important political and administrative center in the southern part of the Barisal division. 

According to the Election Commission, the constituency has a total of 505,835 voters, including 254,335 men, 251,492 women, and 8 third-gender voters.
