JOYPURHAT, Feb 5, 2026 (BSS) – BNP candidate for Joypurhat-2 constituency Abdul Bari has pledged to work for ensuring peace, happiness and sustainable development for the people of his area, with special emphasis on improving the health sector, if elected in the 13th national election.

Former secretary and ex-DC, Dhaka Abdul Bari expressed optimism about the overall development of Joypurhat district, saying his goal is to turn Joypurhat-2 into a livable and prosperous constituency.

He made the remarks in an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha’s (BSS) Joypurhat district correspondent Masud Rana.

BSS: What are your election promises for the voters of your area?

Abdul Bari: I would continue working for the welfare of the people, focusing particularly on healthcare development.

As the constituency is largely agriculture-based, I would take initiatives to introduce agricultural cards, health cards and family cards for residents.

We would create a farmer-friendly environment by reducing the prices of agricultural inputs and ensuring fair prices for agricultural produce.

Emphasis would be given to agro-based industries and employment generation.

My main objective is to increase people’s income through employment. Vocational training would be provided to those seeking overseas employment.

Referring to constitutional commitments, I would take steps to ensure food, clothing, housing, healthcare and education for all.

I would take steps to improve the quality of education through teacher training and said there would be no tolerance for terrorism, corruption, extortion, illegal occupation or fear.

Establishing a medical college and a technical university in Joypurhat is possible with proper planning and commitment.

BSS: What are your instructions to leaders and workers to follow the election code of conduct?

Abdul Bari:  We are strictly following the rules. I have instructed all leaders and activists to comply with the code of conduct, including through my verified Facebook page.
BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?

I hold no personal opinion on the matter. The party’s decision is my decision. I will act according to whatever decision the party takes.

BSS: What are your expectations for the upcoming national elections?

I am hopeful for a free, fair and impartial election after a long time. I urge the administration to perform their duties neutrally so that voters can cast their ballots freely and safely.

Joypurhat, a northern border district, consists of five upazilas and two parliamentary constituencies. Joypurhat Sadar and Panchbibi upazilas make up Joypurhat-1, while Kalai, Khetlal and Akkelpur upazilas form Joypurhat-2.

Joypurhat-2 constituency has 15 unions and 104 polling stations. The total number of voters stands at 351,572, including 174,177 male voters, 177,393 female voters and two third-gender voters.

Three candidates are contesting in Joypurhat-2 in the 13th parliamentary election: BNP candidate Abdul Bari, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate SM Rashedul Alam and Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) candidate SA Zahid.
