BNP Candidate Harun vows to improve communication, empower women in Chandpur-4

CHANDPUR, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Chandpur-4 (Faridganj) constituency Md. Harunur Rashid has pledged to improve communication facilities and ensure women’s empowerment if he gets people’s mandate in the 13th national election.

“If elected, I will focus on developing roads in the area, keeping markets clean, empowering women, creating employment opportunities, and eradicating drugs abuse,” he said.

He revealed this while talking to Chandpur district correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abdus Salam Azad Jewel in an exclusive interview ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

Harunur Rashid, who is currently serves as the Banking and Revenue Affairs Secretary of the BNP’s central executive committee, has been active in the party’s politics for 20 years.

About his election promises for the voters of Faridganj, Harunur Rashid said: “Our leaders and activists have not been able to vote for the past 16–17 years. 

This year, as part of our party’s election pledges, we will announce our promises publicly.”

“My commitment to the voters, in line with our party manifesto, is to ensure women’s education and employment, road development, improved law and order, family cards for households, farmer cards for farmers, and proper waste management,” he added.

He continued, “We will also work with the youth to enhance the beauty of the town, maintain cleanliness and law and order, and implement well-planned development projects. Technical education will be provided to women.”

“As there is no industry in Faridganj, we have a plan to establish an economic zone in the area, which will create employment opportunities for the youth,” he said. 

About his instructions to leaders and activists regarding the election code of conduct, Harunur Rashid said: “Our party members are disciplined and polite; they follow the code of conduct. My party’s leaders and activists always act calmly. If no one provokes us, we do not provoke anyone.”

“Above all, we want a peaceful voting environment and good law and order. I will ask the administration to monitor other candidates closely. 

If they do not create problems, our leaders and activists will not create any issues either.

 They will remain calm,” he said, adding, “I believe that in a clean and fair environment, voters will support the Sheaf of Paddy.”

Regarding his position on the referendum on the July Charter, the BNP candidate said: “Our party has given instructions regarding the July Charter referendum.

 We will explain it to the people at the right time, and they will make the right decision.”

Expressing his expectations for the upcoming JS elections, Harunur Rashid said: “The way they have worked in Bangladesh in the last 16-17 years, it feels like we are in a prison. We want to walk with our confidence, we want to see the people’s smile and happiness.”

“We want to see what the common people like. I believe that the people of this country will vote for the Sheaf of Paddy if they get a fair and beautiful electoral environment,” he added.

A total of eight candidates from different political parties are contesting in Chandpur-4 constituency. 

They are Md. Munir Chowdhury of Gono Forum, Md. Billal Hossain Miyaji of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Md. Abdul Malek of Bangladesh Islamic Front, independent candidates Md. Abdul Hannan and Zakir Hossain, Mahmud Alam of Jatiya Party, and Maqbul Hossain of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

The total number of voters in Chandpur-4 constituency is 391,264 and of them,  199,887 are men, 191,386 are women, and one third-gender voter. There are 118 polling stations and 737 polling booths.
