BHOLA, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Bhola-1 (Sadar) constituency and district Nayeb-e-Ameer Principal Md. Nazrul Islam has pledged to build an embankment to prevent river erosion, ensure healthcare and implement basic human rights.
Islam made this commitment in an exclusive interview with BSS here recently ahead of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls. He is contesting the upcoming polls with Jamaat's election symbol (Daripalla-Scale).
Islam is the eldest son of Alhaj Maulana Mofizul Islam, a resident of Purba Ilisha Union of Sadar Upazila and the principal of Moulovir Hat Kamil Madrasah located in that union.
Since his student life, he first joined Islami Chhatra Shibir and later joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami politics.
About his election promises, Islam said that he will take all out efforts to solve the basic problems of all the neglected people in his constituency.
"Especially, the people here are completely deprived of healthcare. Therefore, I will build a world-class hospital in Bhola," he said.
Noting that the Bhola-Barisal Bridge is an important issue for the people of the district, he said that he will take steps to implement the bridge project as soon as possible.
"If this bridge is built, there will be connectivity between Bhola and Chittagong and national economy will gain momentum," he said.
If elected, he will take initiative to build an embankment to prevent river erosion, he said.
On adherence to the election code of conduct, Islam said that this is not just his instruction, but it is the instruction from the Ameer of Jamaat. He has instructed the leaders, activists and followers to follow the electoral code of conduct properly.
"If the code of conduct is not followed, the upcoming elections will not be meaningful," he also said adding that all the leaders and activists of his party are following the electoral code of conduct.
"Moreover, we have hung 20 billboards as instructed by the Election Commission, he said.
About his stand over the referendum on the July Charter, Islam said, "If we do not vote 'yes' on the charter of the July Uprising, then this uprising will not be meaningful." Therefore, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is campaigning in favor of a 'yes' vote, he added.
On expectations in the upcoming national election, Islam said his expectation is that people can cast their votes in a festive atmosphere in the upcoming national election. “I am expecting that the administration will play a neutral role in this election”.
He said he is campaigning in every neighborhood of Bhola Sadar with party leaders and activists. Thousands of people are flocking towards Jamaat-e-Islami every day, he said.
Therefore, Islam expressed optimism that Jamaat-e-Islami will win the Bhola Sadar seat in the forthcoming Jatiyan Sangsad polls.
Apart from Md Nazrul Islam of Jamaat, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho with his party's electoral sylbol Garur Gari (bullock cart)" and Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) candidate Maulana Obaidur Rahman with his party's electoral symbol "Hatpakha” (Hand Fan) are contesting from the Bhola-1 constituency.
According to the Bhola District Election Office, Bhola-1 constituency comprises one municipality and 13 unions, with a total of 383,864 voters.
Among them, 199,240 are male, 184,620 are female, and four are third-gender voters. The number of new voters stands at 179,997. At least 100,000 voters in the constituency are reportedly not affiliated with any political party.
Political analysts believe that these voters, along with a significant youth vote, would be the determining factor in the polls.
Overall, senior politicians and people from various professions in Bhola believe that Bhola-1 constituency has become a complex and competitive battleground for candidates in the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
After a long time, the 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls is going to be held on February 12 ushering a news hope to ensure a sustainable democracy in the country.
