BHOLA, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate from Bhola-1 constituency and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho has promised to ensure gas connections to every household in Bhola and implement the long-awaited Bhola–Barishal bridge project, if elected in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls.

He also pledged to improve healthcare facilities by establishing a medical college in Bhola, curb drug abuse, and ensure the basic rights of the people of the district.

Partho made the commitments in an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) ahead of the polls here recently.

Partho is a politician, educationist and lawyer, and a former Member of Parliament (MP) from Bhola-1 constituency. He is also the principal of the British School of Law in Dhaka.

Partho's political career began in 2008, when he contested the 9th Jatiya Sangsad polls from Bhola-1 constituency as the then four-party alliance candidate and defeated Awami League candidate Yusuf Hossain Humayun.

From 2009 to 2014, Partho served as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Establishment (now the ministry of Public Administration)

Partho is the son of former minister and MP from Bhola-1 constituency Naziur Rahman Manju and Sheikh Reba Rahman.

After the death of his father on April 6, 2008, he took over the responsibility of leading the BJP as its chairman.

Responding to a question on his election promises, Partho said every candidate has commitments to the voters and he is no exception.

“My election promises for the voters of my Bhola Sadar-1 constituency are to provide gas connections to every household in Bhola," he said.

He has also pledged protecting Bhola from the curse of drug abuse and brings it down to zero level, build a medical college to bring changes in healthcare, and implement the Bhola–Barisal bridge project.

Partho described these demands as fundamental and reasonable rights of the people of Bhola. “If elected, I will change the scenario of Bhola and work relentlessly to ensure the fundamental rights of its people, InshaAllah.”

On the issue of the election code of conduct, Partho said he has instructed all party leaders and activists to strictly follow it. He also emphasized the need for wider publicity, noting that many people are not fully aware of the code of conduct.

Regarding the referendum on the July Charter, Partho said he wants the July Uprising and the referendum to receive proper respect.

Expressing his expectations for the upcoming national election slated for February 12, he said people have been deprived of voting for the last 17 years.
“My expectation is that this time people will be able to vote freely for their preferred candidate, and the one they believe will carry forward development works should be elected,” he said.

Referring to his long-standing ties with the constituency, Partho said Bhola Sadar is his birthplace and that his father was an MP from the area, a former Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives of the Ershad government, and the first mayor of Dhaka City Corporation.

Partho himself was also elected MP from the same constituency earlier.

He is contesting the election from Bhola Sadar-1 constituency with his party’s "Garur Gari (bullock cart)" symbol.

Apart from Partho, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Bhola District Nayeb-e-Ameer Principal Md Nazrul Islam (Dari palla- Scale) and Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) candidate Maulana Obaidur Rahman (Hatpakha-Fan) are contesting the polls from Bhola-1 constituency.

According to the Bhola District Election Office, Bhola-1 constituency comprises one municipality and 13 unions, with a total of 383,864 voters.

Among them, 199,240 are male, 184,620 are female, and four are third-gender voters. The number of new voters stands at 179,997.

At least 100,000 voters in the constituency are reportedly not affiliated with any political party. Political analysts believe that these voters, along with a significant youth vote, would be a determining factor in the upcoming polls.

Overall, senior politicians and people from various professions in Bhola believe that Bhola-1 constituency has become a complex and competitive battleground for candidates in the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
After a long wait, the 13th Jatiyan Sangsad polls is scheduled to be held on February 12 will usher a new hope among the people towards establishing a sustainable democratic polity in the country.
