CHUADANGA, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Chuadanga-2 constituency Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu has pledged to ensure the fundamental rights of the people if elected in the upcoming 13th national parliament election.

In an exclusive interview with BSS, Babu said his election commitments are divided into national and local priorities. 

Under the party’s national pledge, he promised the introduction of a “family card” system to ensure that only deserving families receive financial assistance or food supports at fair prices.

An “agricultural card” will also be introduced to provide farmers with easy access to agricultural inputs.

Emphasizing good governance, he said no citizen would face harassment and vowed to strengthen law and order while eliminating corruption. 

Highlighting healthcare as a priority, the BNP candidate promised further development of upazila-level hospitals and the introduction of mobile hospitals to deliver basic medical services to every union in the constituency.

Considering Chuadanga-2 as an agriculture-dominated area, Babu also announced plans to establish a full-fledged agricultural university to enhance knowledge and innovation among local farmers.

Regarding election conduct, he said strict instructions have been given to party leaders and activists to fully comply with the election code of conduct.

He expressed hope for a fair, credible and participatory election, urging all stakeholders—including the administration, Election Commission and rival candidates—to uphold transparency.

On the referendum on the July Charter, Babu said BNP supports a “yes” vote, particularly endorsing reforms such as elections under a caretaker government every five years and the establishment of a bicameral parliament to prevent the return of authoritarianism.

Expressing optimism about voter turnout, he said people, especially young and first-time voters, are eager to participate after being deprived of fair voting opportunities for a long time. 
“We expect a record number of voters and a beautiful election that truly reflects the people’s will,” he added.

Babu is the president of Chuadanga district BNP and an industrialist by profession. 

He was recently elected president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). 

Born on October 31, 1966, he began his political career with the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal while studying at Dhaka University and later held key positions in Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal before joining BNP politics in Chuadanga.

Other candidates contesting in Chuadanga-2 include district Jamaat Ameer and 10-party alliance nominee Md. Ruhul Amin (Daripalla-Scales) and Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) candidate Hasanuzzaman Sajeeb (Hat Pakha).
The Chuadanga-2 constituency comprises three upazilas, 20 unions and two municipalities.

Of the total 492,457 voters, 246,717 are male, 245,736 female and four are transgender voters, with 174 polling stations set up across the constituency.
