NATORE, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - Tahamida Islam Tania, candidate of Gana Sanghati Andolan in the Natore-2 constituency for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections, has expressed her commitment to bringing Natore under gas supply. She also emphasized ensuring dignity in people's lives.

Tania, the former vice-president of the central committee of Krishak Mazur Sramik Sanghati under Gana Sanghati Andolan, is also a member of Women's Solidarity and former president of the Bangladesh Students Federation Jagannath University branch.

Contesting under the Mathal symbol, she is the only female candidate in this constituency. Tania shared her views in an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Natore District Correspondent Farazi Ahmmad Rafiq Baban.

BSS: What is your election promise for the voters of your area?

Tania: Gas transmission line has passed through Natore on its way to Rajshahi, yet Natore has not received gas. Supplying gas to Natore is vital for its people. I want to bring Natore under gas supply and protect residents from the burden of purchasing LPG cylinders.

Natore has often been in the news for encroachment, terrorism, and extortion. I want to make Natore a peaceful town, free from these problems, so that people of all professions can live with dignity in a democratic system.

BSS: What are your instructions to leaders and workers regarding the election code of conduct?

Tania: I have given clear instructions to party leaders and workers to follow the electoral code of conduct. They will not violate it under any circumstances.

BSS: What is your position on the July Charter referendum?

Tania: Bangladesh has embarked on a new path. Our expectation is that the country will advance toward a democratic future through constitutional reforms. For this reason, I and my party members will vote 'yes' in the referendum. I strongly urge all voters to do the same.

BSS: What are your expectations for the upcoming parliamentary elections?

Tania: For the past 17 years, elections were not held, and citizens were deprived of their voting rights. Restoring those rights is a major achievement. The country now has a democratic environment.

I believe the upcoming elections will determine Bangladesh's future path. It is up to the voters to decide whether they will support corrupt candidates or choose honest, competent individuals who can build the nation.

Natore-2 constituency, comprising Natore Sadar and Naldanga upazilas, includes two municipalities and 12 unions. There are 156 polling stations, with a total of 406,886 registered voters. Of these, 201,654 are men, 205,023 are women, and nine are third-gender voters.

Apart from Tania, five others candidates are also contesting the seat: BNP central leader and former deputy minister Advocate M. Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu (Paddy Sheaf), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami district committee Nayeb-e-Ameer and central committee Majlish-e-Sura member Professor Md. Yunus Ali (Daripalla), Islami Andolan Bangladesh district committee president Mohammad Ali Siddique (hatpakha), Jatiya Party district committee general secretary Md. Rakib Uddin Kamal (plough), independent candidate Dr. Md. Nurannabi Mridha (football), and Gana Sanghati Andolan leader Tahamida Islam Tania (mathal).
