BOGURA, Jan 30 , 2026 (BSS) – Rezaul Karim Badsha, Bogura District BNP President and Chief Election Coordinator for the 'Sheaf of Paddy' candidate Tarique Rahman, has stated that like elsewhere of the country, the overall development of Bogura Sadar is Tarique Rahman's main pledge.

Bogura is known as a BNP stronghold as it is the birthplace of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency is specifically referred to as the seat of the Zia family. While this seat was historically allocated to Begum Khaleda Zia, this is the first time BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is contesting the election from here with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol.

In the 2001 national election, the late Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia won this seat and served as Prime Minister. She also won this seat in the 2008 national election. In the past 12 national parliamentary elections, BNP-backed candidates have won this seat six times.

Regarding the 13th national parliamentary election, Chief Election Coordinator Rezaul Karim Badsha shared BNP’s thoughts and promises to voters in an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Bogura district correspondent Kalam Azad.

BSS: What are your election promises for the local voters?

Rezaul Karim Badsha: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman's main commitment is the comprehensive development of Bogura Sadar. He will work on creating employment, solving the gas, electricity, and water crises, improving the quality of education and healthcare, and establishing good governance. We are reaching out to the people, and they are saying they will elect their son, Tarique Rahman, with a huge number of votes.

BSS: What are your instructions regarding the electoral code of conduct and campaigning?

Rezaul Karim Badsha: BNP believes in peaceful and systematic politics. Party activists have been instructed to follow the code of conduct and not to get involved in any kind of violence or provocation. We are following the rules and regulations prescribed by the Election Commission.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum regarding the July Charter?

Rezaul Karim Badsha: A referendum is important to reflect the spirit of the July mass uprising and public opinion. No decision outside of the people's opinion is acceptable.

BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming parliamentary election?

Rezaul Karim Badsha: The people expect a neutral, participatory, and acceptable election. If that environment is ensured, the people will give BNP the responsibility to run the state. Once a fair election is held, BNP will build a modern and discrimination-free country.

The Bogura-6 constituency consists of Bogura Municipality and 11 unions. The total number of voters in this seat is 454,043. Among them, there are 231,237 female voters, 222,796 male voters, and 10 third-gender voters. The constituency has 150 permanent voting centers and 835 voting booths.

The contesting candidates in this seat are BNP's Tarique Rahman (Sheaf of Paddy), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Abidur Rahman Sohail (Scales), JSD's Abdullah Al Waki (Star), Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Abu Noman Md. Mamunur Rashid (Hand Fan), and BSD's Dilruba Nuri (Ladder).
