RAJSHAHI, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) - Mijanur Rahman Minu, who is contesting for Rajshahi-2 (Rajshahi Sadar) constituency in the 13th parliamentary election as the BNP candidate, has express4ed high hopes to ensure civic services for city dwellers if get people’s mandate.
He also hopes to root out land grabbers, extortionists, terrorists and armed criminals from the city.
Minu was first elected Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation in 1991. From 1994 to 2002, he served two more consecutive terms as mayor.
While serving as mayor, he was elected Member of Parliament from Rajshahi-2 (Sadar) constituency in 2001.
In the upcoming national election, Minu, adviser to the party’s recently deceased chairperson, has again got party ticket for the Sadar constituency.
Talking to BSS, Minu said BNP’s uncompromising leader Begum Khaleda Zia sacrificed her life struggling for democracy. Our party is now led by Mr. Tarique Rahman. He envisions employment for the new generation and governing the country by taking everyone along. That is why people are interested in BNP. As for me, I have established educational institutions in Rajshahi.
“I have treated everyone well. I have been serving people for a long time. Seniors see me like their own child. I have never behaved badly with anyone, nor have I committed any wrongdoing. Considering everything, I believe the people of Rajshahi will vote for me,” he said.
He said that civic services for the residents of Rajshahi metropolis will be ensured. He stated that steps will be taken so that city residents are not deprived of any civic services, and that they will work in the coming days to deliver the services desired by the people.
Minu further said that people have long been deprived of their voting rights, and that the BNP is working to restore the fundamental rights of the people.
He also added that to ensure the development of Rajshahi metropolis and the provision of civic services, elected representatives must stand by the people.
Referring to his election contenders Minu also said: “Those of us contesting the election are all like brothers. We are all children of this soil. I have equal respect for everyone. I do not disrespect anyone. Rajshahi is a city of peace, and we must all protect that. I will make every effort from my side to ensure the election is completed in a peaceful environment. Whoever the people elect will be elected.”
“Of course, the people are the source of all power. Whoever the people elect will win, and everyone will cooperate with him. I will do so as well.”
Replying to a question about whether the workers and supporters of defeated candidates will be able to live safely in the area, Minu said: “Yes, Rajshahi belongs to all of us. Together we will run the country. We will also jointly build Rajshahi beautifully. Those who are good here will live together like brothers.”
Responding to another question about which issues will you prioritize for the area, he added that he will be very much sincere about making Rajshahi a peaceful city.
He asserted that those who are land grabbers, those who are extortionists, those who are terrorists, and those who wield arms will be eradicated.
Everyone will be involved in identifying them and bringing them under the law. “We will also work to create employment opportunities in Rajshahi”, he added.
He said: “Our Party Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman has spoken about this. We will certainly work on establishing industries in Rajshahi, especially in the IT sector, so that the younger generation can earn from here. We will work on improving women’s skills. By mastering the languages of different countries, employment opportunities will also be created abroad.”
