BANDARBAN, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) – Abu Sayed Md. Sujauddin, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) candidate for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls from Bandarban constituency has pledged to fulfil basic needs and deliver all government services directly to the doorsteps of the district's residents.
Sujauddin, a 33-year-old freelance journalist and the Joint Member Secretary of the NCP Central Committee, is contesting for the Bandarban (Seat 300) constituency with the ‘Shapla Koli' symbol.
A resident of Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar, he also serves as the party's Organizing Secretary for the Chattogram Division.
In an exclusive interview with BSS District Correspondent Saikat Dash, Sujauddin discussed various aspects including health, education, communication and crises, and potentiality of the district people.
The following are excerpts from the interview:
BSS: What are your election promises for the voters in your constituency?
Md. Sujauddin: AssalamuAlaikum, Namashkar, Adab, Eko Baya.
Bandarban needs people-oriented development in the coming days, and I want to ensure that. I want to improve the education system here by ensuring quality education for people in remote areas. I want to establish good schools for specific communities where they reside, ensuring opportunities to practice community language and culture alongside quality education.
There is a specific green economy value chain here. I want to work on that value chain to create employment for the local youth. It is not that every young person will do a job; rather, I want to ensure they become entrepreneurs who can provide jobs to others.
Through these entrepreneurs, the future Bandarban will contribute to the country's economic growth while ensuring decent livelihoods.
If elected for the five-year term, I want to ensure transparency and accountability regarding government work.
It is crucial for the public to know about government allocations in their area. We often see budgets passed, but the public knows nothing.
I will ensure they know the accounts of every development allocation and expenditure.
As part of this accountability, there will be a daily live update of these works accessible to the public.
We are also thinking of establishing an international university here.
Since this is a border area, we want to set up a high-quality international university where students from home and abroad, including Bandarban, can pursue higher education.
BSS: What are your instructions to party leaders and activists to follow the electoral code of conduct?
Md. Sujauddin: We have already spoken to most of the NCP leaders and activists. We are giving central briefings to the organization's Upazila-level chief coordinators, joint coordinators, and leaders of our associate bodies, including Chatra Shakti and Jubo Shakti.
In this briefing, we are saying that there must be a competitive election. We do not want to force the people by using any kind of muscle power. As a force of the "July spirit," we do not support injustice toward any human being. We are observing every aspect of the electoral code of conduct meticulously. By following these rules, we will stage a ballot revolution here.
BSS: What is your position regarding the referendum on the 'July Charter'?
Md. Sujauddin: The ‘Yes' vote is very important to us in this election, and we are campaigning for it. 'Yes' means standing for the reconstruction of the future Bangladesh. You know that the NCP was formed on the platform of the July mass uprising. Based on that, our anti-fascist alliance is campaigning for the 'Yes' vote. We have made our position clear regarding the July Charter from the very beginning. Because you know, if this July Charter is not implemented and if fascism or neo-fascism rises again, we will be the first to be targeted. Therefore, our position on this matter is very clear, and we are making the public aware of every specific issue.
BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming national parliamentary election?
Md. Sujauddin: The experience the people went through during the fascist regime in Bangladesh must never be repeated—whether on the voting field or at the people's doorsteps. Never again should only powerful people come to power in any place. There will be empowerment of the masses; the people will be the owners of power. I want to see a system where people can enjoy their right to power. We want people to cast their own votes. The 'Yes' vote I mentioned is similar to voting for oneself. It is a battle for one's rights. At the same time, the people must guard their own votes. We expect that the entire administration and all stakeholders will set an example in protecting these rights of the people, through which a new Bangladesh will be built.
Other candidates contesting for this seat include Bandarban District BNP Convener Saching Prue Jerry, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Abul Kalam Azad, and Jatiya Party candidate (Plough symbol) Abu Zafar Md. Wali Ullah.
The total number of voters in the Bandarban district is 3,15,422, consisting of 1,61,775 male voters and 1,53,647 female voters.
