LALMONIRHAT, Jan 27, 2026 (BSS) — Advocate Abu Taher, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Lalmonirhat-3 (Sadar) constituency in the upcoming 13th national parliament election, has pledged to prioritize the development of roads and communication systems if elected.

In an exclusive interview with BSS, Abu Taher said improving infrastructure would be his first initiative, alongside upgrading the local hospital into a modern healthcare facility, which he described as currently unusable.

He outlined a broader development plan focusing on sustainable employment through skills training at home and abroad, qualitative improvements in education and health services, and increased opportunities for women workers. 

Addressing social issues, he said effective measures would be taken to curb drug abuse in the area.

The Jamaat candidate also promised to ensure fair prices for fertilizers and crops, establish cold storage facilities for vegetable preservation, reconstruct the Mogolhat Land Port, implement the Teesta master plan, and to productive use of unused land along the Teesta riverbanks. 

He further mentioned plans to increase seats at the Aviation and Aerospace University, Bangladesh in Lalmonirhat and develop a permanent campus.

Regarding election code of conduct, Abu Taher said he has instructed his party leaders and workers to strictly follow the electoral code of conduct under any circumstances.

About the proposed referendum on the July Charter, he described it as a “lifelong demand” and urged voters to cast a ‘yes’ vote. 

Expressing optimism about the polls, he said he expects a “fair, beautiful and joyful” election that would lead to the formation of a just and corruption-free government.

Lalmonirhat-3 constituency comprises nine unions of Sadar Upazila and Lalmonirhat Municipality, with a total of 307,970 voters. Among them,  154,163 are male voters, 153,805 are female voters and two are third-gender voters. The election will be held across 94 polling stations and 595 polling booths.

Other candidates contesting the seat include BNP leader and former deputy minister Asadul Habib Dulu, Jatiya Party’s Md Zahid Hasan, Gonosamhati Andolan’s Deepak Kumar Roy and CPB’s Madhusudan Roy and Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Md Aminul Islam.
