Dinajpur-2 Jamaat candidate Anam vows to build livable Biral and Bochaganj

DINAJPUR, Jan 27, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Dinajpur-2 constituency in the forthcoming 13th national parliament election, AKM Afzalul Anam has pledged to work for the welfare of the people by ensuring development, employment generation and the establishment of a corruption-free society.

In an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Afzalul Anam said the people of Biral and Bochaganj upazilas (Dinajpur-2) want peace, security and freedom from terrorism, corruption and looting. 

“We want to build a peaceful and safe constituency free from corruption and extortion. With the people, we aim to make Biral and Bochaganj livable and aesthetically developed,” he added.

Highlighting development plans, the Jamaat candidate said initiatives would be taken to develop the country’s largest Shalbagan in Biral upazila as a tourist spot. 

He also emphasized creating employment opportunities for the youth to address unemployment in the area.

Regarding compliance with the election code of conduct, Anam said Jamaat leaders and activists are disciplined and committed to following Election Commission rules. 

“All party banners and festoons were removed after the election schedule was announced. We will continue campaigning within the law to maintain a healthy election environment,” he added.

On the referendum on the July Charter, Afzalul Anam expressed firm support, saying justice must be ensured for the martyrs of the July Revolution. 

“The July Charter represents the existence of the country. We strongly support a ‘yes’ vote in the referendum and will not retreat from this position,” he said.

Expressing optimism about the upcoming polls, he said Jamaat is actively working to meet public expectations. 

“If the election is fair, there is a strong possibility of winning through a silent vote revolution,” he added.

Dinajpur-2 constituency comprises Biral and Bochaganj upazilas, with two municipalities, 18 unions and 116 polling stations. 

The total number of voters stands at 371,478, including 187,112 men and 184,366 women.

A total of eight candidates are contesting the seat, including BNP candidate Sadiq Riaz Pinak Chowdhury, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate AKM Afzalul Anam, Jatiya Party Advocate Md Zulfikar Hossain, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Muhammad Redwanul Karim Rabid, Bangladesh Muslim League Md Mukaram Hossain, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Jobayer Sayeed, and independent candidates Anwar Chowdhury Jibon and ANM Bazlur Rashid Kalu, joint general secretary of district BNP.
