WASHINGTON, United States, June 3, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - US President Donald Trump on Tuesday endorsed hard-right Colombian presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella ahead of a run-off election in the Latin American country on June 21.

"The results of this Election are very important to the future of Colombia and its relationship to the United States. Because of his tremendous accomplishments in life, and his political support for me, personally, it is my Honor to give Abelardo my Complete and Total Endorsement," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

De la Espriella was the surprise winner of the first round election in Colombia at the weekend and will face leftist Senator Ivan Cepeda in the run-off.
