SYDNEY, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - A couple who struck it rich at a Sydney casino have been charged with fraud for allegedly using a hidden camera and earpieces to cheat at cards, Australian police said Sunday.
The pair from Kazakhstan allegedly raked in Aus$1.2 million (US$780,000) in October and November, raising suspicions at the gaming house, named in local media as Crown Sydney Casino.
Police arrested the couple on Thursday after casino staff spotted a camera on the 36-year-old woman's shirt, New South Wales state police said in a statement.
The woman and her 44-year-old husband were charged with fraud the following day.
Detectives said they found a small camera attached to the woman's Mickey Mouse and Pluto shirt.
The couple are accused of using the camera and a mobile phone to see the casino card table, and communicating with "deep seated earpieces" to bet on card games.
Detective Superintendent Peter Faux said police worked closely with casino security.
"This strong cooperation is vital to maintaining the integrity of gaming operations and is reflected in outcomes like this," he said.
