RANGPUR, June 20, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Film Archive (BFA) Director General
(DG) Md Abdul Jalil has said the supreme sacrifice of martyred Abu Sayeed is
an inspiration to all patriotic people of the country.
"So that this sacrifice of martyred Abu Sayeed never goes in vain, his dreams
and struggles must be reflected in every level of our work and thinking to
build a prosperous Bangladesh free from all sorts of discriminations," he
said.
The BFA DG said this while addressing a views-exchange meeting with the
members of Film and Art Society of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR)
marking the Festival of the Youth at the university on Friday.
The BFA under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting organised the
event with the assistance of the Film and Art Society and Begum Rokeya
University at the conference room of the Academic Building No 2 on the
campus.
At the event, chaired by BFA DG Abdul Jalil, BFA Director Farhana Rahman
presented a documentary introducing the Bangladesh Film Archive and its
activities.
In his presidential address, the BFA Director General said that films and art
are a reflection of a nation's thoughts, culture and overall values.
"Film is not only entertainment, but it is a very powerful medium for social
change. Sometimes we see films only as a hobby, but if it can be taken as a
profession, then many social barriers can be removed," he said.
He said it is possible to influence society, create public awareness, and
bring about positive change through professional films.
Regarding the Film and Art Society, he said, "We want to see this society as
an open platform where students will speak about society in the language of
art and open new horizons in the world of thought."
This society will further expand the practice of art. Students will be
interested in research and creativity and will use film as a tool for
awareness.
"The students of Begum Rokeya University will take this institution forward
out of their responsibility to the society and nation," he said, and urged
the students to continue practicing creativity, aesthetics and human values
in art practice.
