NATORE, Oct 13, 2022 (BSS) - The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction-2022 was observed in a befitting manner in the district today.
The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is being observed since 1989, after a call by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) for a day to promote a global culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction. In 2009, the UNGA officially designated October 13 as the date to commemorate the day.
The 2022 edition focuses on "Early warning and early action for all".
On the occasion of the day a rally was bought out from the collectorate building premises and paraded different streets in the town this morning.
After the rally, a discussion was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner Office with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shamim Ahmed in the chair.
Shamim Ahmed said our country has acquired the capacity to deal with disasters through active deployment of modern rescue teams, construction of shelters and preventive management.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Nadem Sarwar, Deputy Director of Department Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md. Abdul Wadud, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Zubaida Sultana and educationist Subidh Kumar Maitra, among others, spoke at the function.
Marking the day, thousands of students observed the fire fighting system of fire service and civil defense team held at the Collectorate School and College this morning.
