CHATTOGRAM, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram WASA has achieved a remarkable milestone in both revenue collection and water production over the past two months.
 
An analysis of Chattogram WASA's revenue collection data indicates that for an extended period, the company's monthly revenue was confined to an average range of TK 18-19 crore, peaking at TK 20 crore. However, in July and August, this figure surged to approximately 27 crores. In August, the total collection of water bills, which included the recovery of old arrears, amounted to TK 26.53 crore.
 
According to Rumon Dey, Chief Revenue Officer of Chattogram WASA, the previous month saw a total collection of TK 26.80 crore from water sales, including a partial of old arrears. Correspondingly, daily water production has risen to an average of 49.60 crore liters, a figure that the WASA authorities says is unprecedented in the organization's history.
 
WASA officials have stated that water production is expected to further increase in the coming one to two months. Earlier, daily production was restricted to between 46 and 48 crore liters. 
 
Regarding the increase in revenue collection, Chattogram WASA Chief Engineer Maksud Alam informed BSS, "earlier, we collected regular revenue averaging between TK 18-19 crore, with a maximum of 20 crore. However, due to the diligent oversight of the current management, particularly the establishment of a monitoring team, strict enforcement of outstanding bill collections, and heightened customer awareness, we have achieved this record revenue amount." 
 
He continued, "Our Managing Director has put in significant effort. Since his arrival, he has been dedicated to enhancing revenue collection and boosting water production. The revenue collected reached an unprecedented 26.80 crore, the highest for any single month in WASA's history (last July)." Chattogram WASA has continued this trend in collecting water bills for August and the outstanding arrears in the current month of September," he added.
 
In this context, Chattogram WASA Managing Director Engineer Salim Mohammad Jane Alam informed BSS, "From the outset, I have been focused on enhancing revenue collection. I believe I have made significant progress. WASA has recorded its highest revenue in the last two months. This month, approximately TK 27 crore has been collected, which includes a partial recovery of the previous 12 crore in arrears.
 
This figure is anticipated to rise further. Revenue is being collected daily and deposited into the bank. In July, the maximum collection reached TK 26.80 crore, marking a historic record for WASA in terms of revenue collection. Alongside the recovery of long-standing arrears, we have implemented measures to ensure regular collection of water bills. We convened a meeting with all stakeholders to discuss strategies for increasing revenue collection," he stated.
 
"The water production process has gained momentum. So, revenue collection is on the rise," he stated. Engineer Selim mentioned that alongside the increase in revenue, water production has also reached unprecedented levels. Now, an average of 49.6 crore liters of water is produced daily. "Water production is expected to rise further. There is no longer a water crisis in any part of the city as there was previously,” he added.
 
The WASA Chairman said that the initiative to supply water to Patenga, which has long been without water, is set to commence soon. 

“This work will begin by the end of this month. Efforts are also being made to ensure a consistent water supply by installing deep tube wells to serve the elevated areas of the city where WASA does not provide regular water," Engineer Selim added.
