Smuggled goods worth Tk 1.86cr seized in Sylhet

SYLHET, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth Taka 1.86 crore during separate drives in different border areas of Sylhet on Sunday.

Sylhet BGB Battalion (BGB-48) conducted the drives, under its jurisdiction, in Banglabazar, Tamabil, Sangram, Pratappur, Sonarhat and Kalairag Border Outposts (BOPs)  and seized the goods.

According to the BGB, a large number of Indian cattle, sarees, cumin, cosmetics, bidis, chocolates, blankets, tea leaves, fuchka, sugar and vegetables. T-shirts, sweaters and jeans pants being smuggled out of Bangladesh were also seized during the drives.

The estimated seizure value of the smuggled goods is Taka 1,86,18,230.

Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) Commander Lt Mohammad Nazmul Haque said the BGB's operational and intelligence activities along the border are continuing intensively to maintain border security and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking.

"As part of these ongoing efforts, we conducted drives in the border areas and seized a large quantity of smuggled goods," he said.

He added that necessary legal measures would be taken regarding the seized smuggled goods in accordance with the law.
