Two killed in separate road accidents in Cumilla

CUMILLA, Sept 5, 2026 (BSS) - Two people were killed in separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chauddagram upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, 22, son of Abdur Rahim of Baidderkhil village under Chauddagram municipality and Abul Hashem, 70, a resident of Chatitola area of the municipality.

According to police and local sources, the first accident occurred around 11.00 am in Batisa Gobinda Manikya Dighi area when a speeding motorcycle lost control and rammed into the rear end of a trolley travelling ahead.

The motorcycle rider, Abdur Rahman, sustained critical injuries. Locals rescued him and took him to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

Trolley driver Abdus Sobhan, a resident of Basantapur village, was also injured in the accident. He is undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.

In another accident earlier in the morning, pedestrian Abul Hashem was seriously injured after being hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle while crossing the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway near Chauddagram Madhyamik Pilot Girls’ School. He was later taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Locals said Hashem had been living in a rented house in Chatitola area of Chauddagram municipality for a long time.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Miyabazar Highway Police Station Ruhul Amin confirmed the matters.

The bodies will be handed over to their relatives after completion of necessary legal procedures, he added.
