JASHORE, Sept 4, 2026 (BSS) - Three people, including two women, were killed in separate road accidents in Keshobpur and Abhaynagar upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Amzad Gazi, 54, of Mashrahati village and Asiron Bibi, 65, of Lakshmipur village, both under Abhaynagar upazila and Rokeya Begum, 45, of Madhyakuul village in Keshabpur upazila of the district.

Police said the first accident occurred around 12.30 pm at Urotola on the Jashore-Khulna highway in Abhaynagar upazila when a bus hit a motorcycle, leaving motorcycle rider Amzad Gazi dead on the spot and its pillion Asiron Bibi injured.

Asiron Bibi died on the way to Khulna while being taken there for better treatment.

Police seized the bus after the accident, but its driver and helper fled the scene.

Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam of Nawapara Highway Police Station confirmed the matter and said efforts were underway to arrest the absconding driver and helper.

In another accident, Rokeya Begum was killed after being run over by a bus around 7am in Madhyakuul Uttarpara area of Keshabpur upazila.

After hitting the pedestrian, the bus lost control, broke through the boundary wall of a nearby orphanage and entered its premises. The bus helper was injured in the accident, while the driver fled immediately after the incident.

Officer-in-Charge of Keshabpur Police Station Reksona Khatun said the body of Rokeya Begum was sent to Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
