CHATTOGRAM, Sept 4, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has seized 43,770 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets concealed within the gas cylinder of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Anwara upazila of the district.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with this incident. The auto-rickshaw utilized for the transportation of Yaba was also confiscated during the operation.
This information was disclosed by RAB-7 in a press release issued here on Friday.
The arrested are Shafi Alam, 36, son of Faizul Haque, from the Muhuripara area of Ukhia upazila in Cox's Bazar district and Abdur Rahim, 47, son of late Abdul Majid, from the Nayapara area of Sadar upazila in Cox's Bazar.
Acting on a tip-off, a search post was established at the Kala Bibi Dighi intersection (locally known as Kala Bibi Dighi Mor or circle) on Thursday evening, according to RAB sources.
During this operation, a suspicious CNG-run auto-rickshaw was halted and searched. Uponnoticing the police presence, the two occupants attempted to flee but were apprehendedby the RAB personnel.
Later, based on their confessional statement, 22 bundles were discovered inside the gas cylinder, arranged in a specific manner. The bundles were secured with scotch tape. A total of 43,770 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered after unwrapping those bundles.
The estimated worth of the seized Yaba is Taka 1.52 crore.
Assistant Director of the RAB-7, ARM Mozaffar Hossain stated that legal proceedings are being initiated against the two individuals arrested.
