GAIBANDHA, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS) - The upazila administration has seized 209 sacks of fertiliser allegedly stockpiled illegally at a trader’s warehouse in Sundarganj upazila of the district for selling to farmers at higher prices.

A mobile court also fined the trader Taka 30,000 for illegally stockpiling the fertiliser.

The fertiliser was seized during a raid conducted at the business establishment named “M/s Azahar Ali” at Shobhaganj Bazar under Chaparhati union last night.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Iffat Jahan Tuli led the operation. Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Kayum Chowdhury and police personnel were present during the drive.

According to the mobile court, the raid was conducted following a tip-off that the trader had illegally stockpiled fertiliser with an intention to sell it to farmers at inflated prices.

During the raid, the authorities found 102 sacks of urea and 107 sacks of MOP fertiliser stored at the establishment.
The seized fertiliser has been kept in the custody of the upazila agriculture officer and will later be sold to farmers at the government-fixed price.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Kayum Chowdhury told BSS that the authorities seized 102 sacks of urea and 107 sacks of MOP fertiliser during the drive based on a tip-off.

The UNO said there would be no scope for anyone to create an artificial shortage of fertiliser or sell it at inflated prices, causing hardship to farmers.

“Regular drives will be conducted at markets and fertiliser sales centres in the interest of farmers,” she added.
