DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 2,684 pieces of Indian sarees worth around Taka 3.58 crore and a covered van during a task force operation in Shantiganj area of Sunamganj district early today.

Acting on intelligence information, a 10-member team of Sunamganj Battalion (28 BGB) conducted the operation at around 3:40 am in the Shantiganj area, said a BGB press release here this afternoon.
 
The operation was led by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, assistant commissioner and executive magistrate of Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner's Office, and Assistant Director of 28 BGB Md Selim Rana.

The team searched an abandoned covered van and recovered 2,684 pieces of various types of high-quality Indian sarees, valued at Taka 3,58,19,000, the BGB release added.

Sunamganj Battalion Commander Lieutenant colonel AKM Zakaria Kadir said BGB's operations and intelligence activities would continue to prevent the smuggling of illegal Indian goods into the country and protect government revenue, alongside ensuring border security.

The seized sarees are being handed over to Sunamganj Customs, the release added.
