NARAIL, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - A national cultural competition marking Nazrul Year-2026 was inaugurated at the district Shilpakala Academy Auditorium here in the town today. 

Narail Deputy Commissioner Dr. Abdul Salam attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Salam said, "Such an event is commendable to spread the timeless spirit of literature, music, equality and humanity of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to hearts of the new generation."

Cultural activities play an important role in the development of society, he said, stressing the importance of promoting the ideals of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

"Nazrul taught us the values of harmony and showed us how to overcome obstacles to establish peace in society," he said, calling on people to study Nazrul to help build a non-communal society. 

Deputy Director of the Local Government Md. Nazmul Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Ahsan Mahmud Rusel, Additional Superintendent of Police Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui, along with government officials, cultural personalities, heads of various educational institutions, teachers, students and guardians were present at the event.

Students from primary, secondary, higher secondary and university levels are participating in various categories of the event. The subjects of the competition include Nazrul Sangeet, poetry recitation, painting, solo performance, solo dance and creative writing competition.
