RAJSHAHI, Aug 22, 2026 (BSS)- Chairman of Barind Multipurpose Development
Authority (BMDA) Hasan Zafir Tuhin inspected various irrigation and water
management projects in the Barind region of Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj
districts today.
During the inspection, he visited various canals, agricultural lands, BMDA's
Double Lifting Irrigation Project, the irrigation project installed on the
Punarbhaba River, and the intake point of the proposed Double Lifting Project
on the Mahananda River in Godagari, Nachole and Gomastapur upazilas.
Later, he held a view-exchange meeting with officers and employees at the
Gomastapur Zone and Chapainawabganj Region office.
At this time, the BMDA Chairman said that to keep agricultural production
sustainable in the Barind region, it is essential to ensure proper and
planned use of water.
Along with increasing the use of surface water, projects will be implemented
by giving top priority to modernization of the irrigation system, prevention
of water wastage, and the needs of farmers.
To ensure proper, planned and sustainable use of water for the development of
agriculture and farmers in the Barind region, there must be no kind of
irregularity, wastage, or harassment of farmers in irrigation management will
be tolerated.
Initiatives will be taken to identify problems through regular field-level
inspections of the actual condition of the projects and to solve them
quickly.
Agricultural production in the Barind region is largely dependent on
irrigation.
Therefore, considering the needs of farmers, irrigation infrastructure should
be developed, canals and water bodies should be used effectively, and the use
of surface water should be increased.
At the same time, it is urgent to implement long-term plans to conserve water
and prevent wastage. At this time, he listened to all the local leaders and
gave instructions for a quick solution.
The Chairman further said that the officers and employees must work more
responsibly and sincerely so that the benefits of each project of BMDA
directly reach the farmers.
He emphasized on enriching the agriculture of the Barind region by building a
farmer-friendly, environment-friendly and sustainable irrigation system.
Initiatives will be taken to identify problems and solve them quickly through
on-site inspection of the actual condition of the project at the field level.
He called upon all officers and employees of BMDA to work sincerely to build
a farmer-friendly and sustainable irrigation system.
Farmer Jalal from Godagari said, due to BMDA's irrigation, farming in our
area has become much easier. If water is available on time, various crops
including Aman and Boro can be cultivated well.
Farmer Shamim Ahmed from Gomastapur said if irrigation projects are properly
operational, their production increases and costs also decrease.
Present during the inspection were BMDA Executive Director Jahangir Alam
Khan, Additional Chief Engineer Abul Kashem, Board Member Shafiqul Alam
Samapto, Superintending Engineers Abdul Latif and Moniruzzaman Monir,
Executive Engineers Tarikul Islam, Delwar Hossain, officers and employees of
the concerned region and zone and local farmers.
